Colorado Tip
An ultra-fine needle-tip monopolar electrode — essentially a sharpened wire that concentrates current into a millimeter-scale effect.
Design
- Tungsten or fine-steel wire tip, sharpened to a point
- Concentrates electrosurgical current into a very small area
- Minimal lateral thermal spread compared with blade-tip monopolar
Key Uses in Reconstructive Urology
- Penile skin and preputial dissection (hypospadias, phalloplasty)
- Urethral plate dissection and mobilization
- Vaginal wall flap development
- Dartos dissection during UCF repair
- Any field where a blade-tip monopolar would damage adjacent critical tissue
Cautions
- Fragile tip — bends and breaks easily
- Higher current density means tissue char accumulates quickly; clean frequently
