The Hidden Curriculum

Clinical training teaches you to take care of patients. It doesn't teach you how the system in which you practice actually works — how money flows, how decisions are made, how operations are structured, how organizations scale. The consequence is a specialist who can perform a complex posterior urethroplasty but cannot read an RVU report, negotiate a contract, or distinguish bundled payment from fee-for-service.

This section closes that gap. It is the operational literacy layer that surgical training leaves unfilled — the knowledge every practicing surgeon eventually needs and most acquire by accident. Framed for the reconstructive urologist, it covers healthcare finance, payment models, hospital administration, billing and coding, practice management, and the pathway to physician leadership.

  • Clinical Operator MindsetReframing from "I treat patients" to "I operate a clinical production system" — learning pathway, core knowledge stack, and what to practice weekly
  • Healthcare Finance & Payment ModelsRevenue cycle, payer mix, RVUs, margins, FFS vs bundled vs value-based care, RBRVS, cost structure, and what hospital administrators actually do
  • Billing & CodingCPT procedure codes, ICD-10 diagnoses, modifiers, and wRVUs specific to functional urology and GU reconstruction
