Anthony Atala
Biography
Anthony Atala is the G. Link Professor and director of the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.1 He received his MD from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and completed a surgery and urology residency at the University of Louisville.1 He completed a clinical and research urology fellowship at Children's Hospital of Boston in 1992; Alan Retik directed the fellowship program.12 He is a founding member of the Tissue Engineering Society.1
Contributions
Atala's cited publications cover tissue-engineered bladder and urethral reconstruction, including autologous cell-seeded grafts, acellular matrices, and urethral substitution. Other cited papers cover chondrocyte injection for vesicoureteral reflux and preclinical work on engineered urethral stents and testosterone-releasing testicular prostheses.34567
