Contributions

Her research covers recovery of pelvic floor function after childbirth, pelvic floor injury from childbirth, and surgical education.1 She coauthored the Fundamentals of Vaginal Surgery pilot study, which developed and validated a simulation system and proficiency score for basic vaginal surgical skills.3

  • Colpopexy and colporrhaphy at hysterectomy for prolapse (2016). Led a Michigan statewide database study of 1557 hysterectomies with prolapse as an indication; 43.1% were hysterectomy alone and 24.1% included a colpopexy, which was more likely when the surgeon specialized in urogynecology (odds ratio 8.2).4 Cited on WARWIKI: Anterior Colporrhaphy.
  • Normal pelvic floor recovery after high-risk vaginal birth (2020). Led a prospective cohort of 82 women after vaginal births with risk factors for pelvic floor injury and 30 after cesarean; using posterior wall support, Kegel force and levator ani tear on imaging, 46.4% met criteria for pelvic floor injury at 6 weeks and 29.6% at 6 months.5
  • Surgery in a postpartum pelvic floor clinic (2020). Coauthored a review of 1138 patients seen in the Michigan Healthy Healing After Delivery clinic; 9.1% had surgery, most often anal sphincteroplasty, perineal laceration revision or rectovaginal fistula repair.6 Cited on WARWIKI: Obstetric Perineal Lacerations.
