Biography​

Sanjay Kulkarni began introducing urethroplasty in his hometown in India in the 1980s.4 In 1995 he established a hospital with two operating theatres and 20 beds; by 2021 it had grown into a 100-bed urology centre.4 He also started the Kulkarni School of Urethral Surgery, which has hosted surgeons from other countries for training.4

Kulkarni introduced buccal mucosa urethroplasty in 1997, applied it to the penile urethra in 2000, and developed a one-sided dissection technique in 2009.4
