Oral Mucosa Flap (Lingual)
The oral mucosa flap, typically harvested from the lingual (tongue) mucosa rather than the buccal surface, provides an alternative free graft source when bilateral cheek sites are insufficient or have been previously harvested. Lingual mucosal grafts have similar histological properties to buccal grafts and demonstrate comparable graft take rates. The tongue harvest site generally heals rapidly and carries a favorable donor-site morbidity profile.
